I am the first person you meet, and the last person on site. Every commission at Hasebe Studio is led from first sketch to final install by me, with a four-person team in support. The practice is intentionally small — forty-seven residences completed since 2007, twelve U.S. states and three countries represented, and thirty-eight of those clients have come back for a second or third project.
We work in the overlap between Japanese material discipline and American construction fluency, and we are best suited to clients who value restraint, longevity, and quiet craft over statement-making. Our average residential scope is 4,200 square feet and runs twenty-eight months from contract to handover. The Material Transparency Index, 2019 — present.
Every new build that leaves Hasebe Studio ships with a published index of every specified product and its manufacturer — six hundred and counting at last count. The Index is a self-published disclosure, not a third-party certification, and it is the first thing we write at the start of a project and the last thing we finish at handover.
It exists because our clients have asked, repeatedly, to know exactly what is going into the walls, floors, and air of their homes. We read it back to them as a matter of professional discipline, the same way we read back a finish schedule. Paid consultations are scheduled by introduction. Initial conversations run ninety minutes and are billed against the eventual commission. We accept a limited number of new commissions each year.
